One Sky team, Sangkhlaburi Child Protection Working Group (under formation), Police, Village leaders, 1300 Kanchanaburi, Convention on the Rights of the Child Coalition Thaialnd (CRCCT).

Job purpose

The Child Protection and Family Support Project Coordinator will work closely with the One Sky team using their proven experience to provide case management support to the team and also leadership for more complex cases.

The official Sangkhlaburi child protection working group is currently forming with support from UNICEF. The Child Protection and family support coordinator will have a key role to play in the group and must be confident to liaise with senior government officials locally, provincially and in Bangkok while maintaining a clear NGO perspective about the best interest of each child.

Duties and responsibilities 

1)     The Child Protection and Family Support Project Coordinator will work closely with the One Sky team and other local and national partners to ensure a high quality holistic response to the needs of vulnerable and at risk children.

2)      Provide prompt and appropriate responses to children with the Best Interest of those Children paramount in all decision making.

3)     Be a confident and knowledgeable advocate of children’s rights as defined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, UN Alternative Care Guidelines and the 2003 Thailand Child Protection Act.

4)      Oversee the Case Management of the One Sky team including quality assessments, care plan development and timely implementation and follow up.

5)      Provide technical support and guidance to the Sangkhlaburi Child Protection Working group.

6)      Design and Facilitate trainings on child protection to be delivered to school teachers and village leaders under the banner of the Sangkhlaburi Child Protection Working group.

7)      Supervise the continuation and further development of One Sky’s “The World Starts with me” program facilitating the self-protection skills of local kindergarten children using a 12 week schedule of workshops.

8)      Participate in and when necessary lead case management meetings and case conferences with the One Sky team.

9)   Make professional presentation of child protection assessments to the newly forming Sangkhlaburi child protection working group.

10)   Work alongside the One Sky director, social work technical adviser and provincial social services to develop a gatekeeping assessment system controlling the flow of children into the local unregistered children’s homes. (This project is backed by the Department of Children and Youth)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or other relevant education foundation is desirable; however significant relevant experience will also be taken into consideration.
  • Ability to speak, listen, read, and write at a professional level in Thai and English is highly desirable (ability to communicate in Burmese a plus).
  • Demonstrate understanding in child rights, child protection issues and case management
  • At least 2 years’ experience in child protection; including case writing, reporting and monitoring processes
  • Experience of leading training, coaching, and other approaches to capacity building
  • Ability to work in partnership with different stakeholders in difficult circumstances.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in multi-cultural settings.
  • Ability to form effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders from the community to senior government staff.
  • Able to live long term in Sangkhlaburi (will be explored at interview).
